Dream Again, Invent The Future

WHY? Wy does NU Breed coaches and staff do WHAT we do and HOW we do it?

WHY anyone does something is the most important you can ask yourself.

Most people or organizations can tell you WHAT they do and HOW they do it but are not clear on WHY they do what they do. NU Breed is different, we know WHY.

A few years ago, a young man came to me in the gym and asked to talk to me. I never let anything disrupt training, so I said I could speak with him in an hour. I continued training athletes, and he stayed standing against the wall waiting for me. I was realized he wanted to connect and waited until I was done.

I finished and went to where he was standing, and he asked me to help me train him as he had surgery to repair a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament. He wanted to play football again. We agreed to meet at 5:00 AM daily. I told him that he was to be on time. If he was late once, I would stop training him.

He kept his end of the agreement. He arrived on time and worked hard from day one. He progressed from learning to walk to eventually running and more extensive strength training. He followed instructions and never complained.

As he returned to his presurgery condition, I decided to test his resilience. I put him through one of the most challenging workout that was intended to make him quit. It began with pushing a weighted sled on the road until he lost his breakfast.

I challenged his mind by saying if he completed a movement, we would stop and go as hard as possible. When the timer would go off, I yelled. "forget the time you keep going!" He did at the same unbelievable pace.

I could not believe he kept going hard. His body was drenched in sweat. I finally told him we were done. He dropped to the gym floor.

As he lay there, I asked him a question, "why are you doing this? This isn't about football?"

He sat up with tears in his eyes, "you want to know why? He told me, "my family is poor, we don't have much money even though my dad works in the fields. We got evicted because we can't pay the rent. We don't have much money for food. My mom goes to bed, hungry so I can eat. I need to play football so I can get a scholarship to go to college. I want to get a degree so I can get a job and make money so my dad will never have to worry about rent money again and my mom will never go to bed hungry again." He was sobbing as he told me his WHY.

"Pete, I knew this wasn't about football. No one would do what you did for a game. I knew this was bigger than football," I told him.

Pete taught me a valuable lesson that WHY you do something is vital. When your WHY is big enough, anything is possible. When your WHY is clear, it will be the fuel to keep you pressing toward your goal.

NU Breed has a WHY. The WHY is essential enough that we confidently say, no one will outwork us as coaches. Our WHY is Dream Again, invent the future. Nu breed wants to help people reconnect to their child-like Imagination.

Dreams are what connects all of humanity. Its the superpower we have to invent the future. Imagination is the only thing that allows us to escape from the limiting reality we live in.
